Robots Make It to Runway at London Fashion Week
News flash! Come this September 15th and 16th Ohmi telepresence robot will grace the runway of London Fashion Week. The Ohmni telepresence robot is developed by Silicon Valley’s OhmniLabs which was co-founded by Jared, Tingxi Tan and Thuc Vu in 2015. They are experts in robots from Carnegie Mellon and Standford in the positive impact ‘consumer robots’ will impact in human’s everyday lives.
Ohmni have teamed up LA designer Honee of House Of Icons this coming September’s London Fashion Week. The robot will wear a unique design from the designer’s collection and will walk with human models on the runway as part of the event to launch emerging and innovative designers. The OhmniLabs and House of Icons collaboration one that is seen as emerging fashion and technology together. As it is Honee’s vision for people to see Ohmni and robots as part of their everyday lives with a focus on the present rather than the future.
In a statement released by Honee, she says the following, ”My show this September is named ‘ÁI’, in reference to Artificial Intelligence and also the play on the Vietnamese word ÁI for love and the Chinese phonetic AI for love as well. We’re in the world of AI and loving it. I use fashion as the language to express the skins we are in. In my upcoming show, it’s not about the future of robots, of a world unknown, but of the presence, the Now. And OhmniLabs is ushering in the world of Now with their telepresence robots. I’m honoured and super excited to be a part of the OhmniLabs journey.”
